This picture pretty much summarises my approach to stress. You can then imagine how it feels when there are ACTUAL things to stress about. And the last couple of days have been pretty stressful for me. When I say stressful, I mean:
-Having a million things to do and not knowing where to start or if I would successfully accomplish all.
-Going to the kitchen and turning around in circles because I completely forgot why I got there
-Watching my three girls walk around looking like semi-mad women because I’ve not braided their hair
-Feeling like everything is going south
-Cooking, washing dishes, cooking and cleaning without end!
-Holding involuntary night vigils with my one year old

Here are some things that are helping me and could help you too if you are stressed out:

1.Breathe

good breathing for stress

I know what you’re thinking: Precious, I’m breathing already!!! How will that change anything???!!! Calm down, my friend. Breathing sounds so simple and natural but doing it consciously works! Breathe in calmness and breathe out the ‘troublems’ (troubles + problems). Let’s try this together, shall we? Breath in, slowly. Now breathe out. How did that feel?

2. Pray

prayers against stress

I had to begin a spontaneous praise/worship and prayer session while I was doing the dishes because I was so overwhelmed. I told God I needed Him because without Him, I can do nothing! Not by power, not by might but my Spirit, says the Lord. (Zechariah 4; 6).
Also, is any among you suffering? Let him pray. (James 5:13)

3. Laugh

Just laugh out loud for ermmm…. no obvious reason. A quote says “laughter is the best medicine but if you laugh for no reason, you need medicine.” For the record, I’m not trying to initiate you into madness. In this case, you’ll be laughing to de-stress so that’s okay! Laughter is medicine to the soul. (Proverbs 17: 22)

4. Think about death

What if in a moment, you are no longer here? Will life go on? Yes! So it’s not that serious, my friend.

5. Go for a walk

Source
Just go out and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. It is therapeutic.

6. Set realistic goals

Don’t try to accomplish more than you can. Don’t kill the horse (your body) without completing the message (your purpose).
The second half of the year begins today. Here’s wishing you a stress-free new month.
