Why This Recipe Works

  • Small serving: This recipe makes 2 servings which are perfect for you and your Valentine.
  • Easy to make: The batter couldn’t be easier. You just whisk together the dried ingredients and add the wet ingredients.
  • No special tools: While having a heart mold can be handy, there’s no need to rush and buy one just for this recipe. You can make this using a Ziploc bag or piping bag.

Ingredients

This recipe, uses staple pancake ingredients which you probably already have in your pantry. Here is everything you need:

Pancake ingredients with labels on them.
  • All-purpose flour: All purpose or plain flour works best here. There is no need for self-rising for this recipe.
  • Whole milk: You can swap the whole milk for buttermilk, if you happen to have any.
  • Butter: Melted butter adds flavor but you could always use a flavorless oil too.

How To Make Heart Shaped Pancakes

  • First whisk together the dry ingredients then add the wet ingredients to form a batter.
  • Let the batter rest for 5 minutes so the gluten can relax.
  • Pour the batter into a piping bag of a food storage bag. Snip the end to create a hole about the size of the tip of a marker, for squeezing out the batter.
  • Heat up a griddle and draw a heart outline with the batter. Fill the middle of the outline with enough batter to form a heat.
  • Let it cook on one side until bubbles form on top the flip to the other side and let it cook until done.

  • Whole wheat flour: Swap the all-purpose flour for more wholesome whole wheat flour.

Heart Shaped Pancake Mold

You can purchase a heart shaped pancake mold from Amazon or you can use heart cookie cutters to make heart shaped pancakes.

If you do not have a heart shaped mold, you can still make heart pancakes. Use a Ziploc bag as a piping bag and pipe the batter into heart shapes.

Expert Tips

  • Rest the batter. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes after mixing before cooking the pancakes. This guarantees softer, fluffier pancakes.
  • Preheat the pan. Make sure the griddle or skillet is preheated before adding the batter. However, it shouldn’t be smoking hot as the pancakes might burn.
  • Cook on medium heat. Cook pancakes on medium heat so they can cook thoroughly through and be golden on the outside.

Add the pancake batter to a piping bag or storage bag. Snip the pointed tip to create a hole. Then pipe the outline of a heart into your skillet or griddle. Place the molds on the skillet or griddle and spray them with cooking spray. Add enough batter to completely cover the bottom of the mold then let it cook for about 2 minutes before removing the mold.

Fluffy, tasty, so good for sharing with your loved ones and for breakfast or brunch!
Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Total: 20 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar could add more if you wish
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 Tablespoons melted butter plus more for frying the pancakes

Instructions

  • In a medium whisking bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Make a well in the middle and add the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Whisk together until just combined.
  • Let the batter rest for about 5 minutes. This helps the gluten relax. Then, pour the mixture into a piping bag or ziploc/sandwich bag. If you have a piping bag or bottle, used in decorating cakes, by all means, use it.
  • Create a small hole about the size of the tip of a marker at the sharp end of the bag. Heat a skillet on medium heat and butter it up. Then, put your bag over the skillet and draw the outline of a heart. Fill the outline quickly with enough batter to create a heart. Let it cook until bubbles form on top, about 3 minutes. Then flip it to the other side and let it cook until done. At the sharp end of the bag, create a small hole about the size of the tip of a marker. Heat a skillet on medium heat and butter it
  • Serve warm with fresh fruit and some maple syrup or dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Add chocolate chips: Consider adding mini chocolate chips to the batter for chocolatey pancakes.
  • Add fruits: Consider adding fruits like blueberries to the batter for fruity pancakes.
  • Whole wheat flour: Swap the all-purpose flour for more wholesome whole wheat flour.

I am not much of a sugar person too and i have discovered that natural honey is healthier than sugar so natural honey is now my substitute. Just a little honey into my mixture and i’m good to go. I am saying good bye to sugar.
