Prayer Should Be Our First Response

I was having a really bad day. The kind of day when I didn’t want to get out of bed. So I lay there in bed worried and feeling hopeless.

Then my daughter Salma came to me and told me something that I keep going back to when the day isn’t going like I feel it should.

She said, “Mommy I went to the guest room and I prayed. I told God everything that was on my mind and I felt better.”

I knew this was God talking to me through my daughter. He was asking me to pray, tell Him everything that was on mind then I will feel better.

So I listened. I eventually went into that room, shut the door and there alone with God I just talked and told Him what was on my mind. And I felt better and lighter.

You see, talking to God is not always the solution I run to when life is hard. I try to figure things out on my own. But my wisdom doesn’t even come close to the wisdom that comes from God.

I am learning to seek God first , to pray first before I think. To pray first before I plan.

And when I do this, I have transferred my burdens to Him. That’s why I feel lighter.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30, NLT

Dear friend, have you told God all that is on your mind? Don’t just think about it, pray about. Don’t just talk about it, pray about it. Don’t worry about it, pray about it.

Prayer should be our first response not our final response.

So if your heart is heavy or you are having a difficult day or a hard season take some to time to tell God everything. Tell Him everything.

Whether in a room alone, or in a bathroom or in your car, wherever you are you can tell God all that’s on your mind and He will help you.

Till today when life gets difficult, I go into that room, shut the door and talk to the Father.
